21st FEBRUARY 2012 - LNG COMMITTEE MEMBERS WANTED!

Do you have what it takes to be on the committee of the Leyland National Group? Can you support the group going forward in this important year of the Leyland National's history?

If so, the Leyland National Group would like to hear from you! We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to support the group in the following key committee positions:

- Webmaster
- Membership Secretary
- Secretary

Due to other commitments, the current committee holders have decided not to stand for re-election at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). 21st JANUARY 2012 - REMINDER: LEYLAND NATIONALS AT 40 & LEYLAND NATIONAL GROUP AGM

The Leyland National Group would like to invite all members and non-members to attend the Leyland Nationals at 40 event, to be held on Sunday 18th March from 1000 until 1600 at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum, Leyland. If you are planning to bring a National to Leyland, please email the LNG webmaster - webmaster@leylandnationalgroup.co.uk to let us know!

Inside the museum itself you will find a unique display of historic commercial vehicles and buses spanning a century of truck and bus building including exhibits and displays celebrating 40 years of the Leyland National. Further details can be found on the British Commercial Vehicle Museum's website.

The event marks the start of the Leyland National 40 celebrations with a display of Leyland National vehicles and a free bus service kindly provided by the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust) has also been arranged. A free bus service will run from Preston Fishergate (at the top of the railway station approach) at 1000 and 1200 to the museum, returning to Preston railway station from Leyland at 1400 and 1600) - A further service will be provided for LNG members attending the AGM, if it continutes after 1600.

The LNG will be holding their 2012 Annual General Meeting (AGM) during the day. Full details of the LNG AGM and other planned Leyland National 40 associated events can be found by following this link.

In addition, a visit to the Ribble Vehicle Presevation Trust's site (not open to the public) has been arranged for Saturday 17th March. A free bus service will run from Preston Fishergate (at the top of the railway station approach) at 1200. If you would like to attend, email the LNG webmaster - webmaster@leylandnationalgroup.co.uk to book a place on the trip.

On Sunday 18th March, The North West Museum of Transport are holding a Leyland Lynx running day. Northern Rail operates services between Leyland and St. Helens - Why not visit both events whilst you're in the area? Further details can be found on the Northern Rail website and the North West Museum of Transport website.

GETTING TO LEYLAND BY RAIL
The museum is a short, ten minute, walk from Leyland railway station which served by trains between Preston and Wigan / Liverpool and between Preston and Bolton / Manchester. If you are coming from further afield, Preston railway station is served by direct trains from London, Scotland and the Midlands. Please see National Rail Enquiries for full details of train services to both Leyland and Preston.

GETTING TO LEYLAND BY BUS
Leyland is served by a frequent bus service run by J. Fishwick & Sons between Leyland and Preston. Please see their website - for timetable information. Buses stop on Fishergate outside Preston railway station (take the main exit up the approach ramp out of the station).

GETTING TO LEYLAND BY CAR
From the M6 motorway, exit at Junction 28 and follow the brown "Museum" direction signs. The Museum is located 1 mile from the M6 in Leyland Town Centre.

40 YEARS OF THE LEYLAND NATIONAL 1972 - 2012

2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the Leyland National going into production and entering service in the UK. Love it or hate it, the Leyland National was an attempt by British Leyland to standardise on a single vehicle type which incorporated developments in new and emerging vehicle technology of the 1970s. To celebrate, the Leyland National Group has arranged a number of specific LEYLAND NATIONAL 40 events to be held throughout 2012.

30th DECEMBER - Changes to Leyland National Group membership rates

It is with some regret that the group has decided to increase its membership rates for the first time in five years, owing to increased postage costs. Despite this, membership of The Leyland National Group is still excellent value, offering exclusive access to the Members section of the Leyland National Group website - Included here are features, articles, rally reports, galleries, Leyland publicity brochures, leaflets and technical information, detailed profiles of preserved Leyland Nationals and more!

Members are also eligible to discounted prices on group merchandise, publications and vehicle parts. In addition, members will also receive a colour illustrated magazine - The NATIONAL Press - Issued quarterly in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, it has a wide range of regular articles and one-off features including preservation news, fleet news, technical help and support for vehicle owners, a wide variety of pictures from the past and present, classified adverts, book and model reviews, information and articles detailing the Leyland National derived rail vehicles and many other items of National interest including British Leyland archive material.

  • 9th OCTOBER - CALLING ALL VEHICLE OWNERS - Leyland National window rubber & flooring

    The Leyland National Group (LNG) would like to hear from any Leyland National owners who require windscreen rubber or original specification floor covering for their vehicles. If there is sufficient demand for these items, the group will explore the feasibility of having these items sourced and remanufactured. The greater the interest from Leyland National vehicle owners and LNG members who require these items we have the cheaper the procurement and production of the items becomes.
